La Reserve de Malartic, Pessac-Leognan, 2009

Bordeaux Wines

La Reserve de Malartic is the second wine of Château Malartic-Lagravière and is owned by Afred-Alexandre Bonnie.  The château is situated just to the south of the small town of Léognan.

The soil is deep stoney gravel with clay and iron-rich sub-soil.  The wine is made from 45% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot, 8% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot.  Sauvignon blanc and sémillon are also planted for the château's white wine.  After de-stemming, the grapes are cold-soaked then fermentation with natural yeasts takes place with, if necessary, continuous pump-over.  Ageing is for 15 to 22 months in 60% new oak barrels.

In common with the first wine, La Réserve is a carefully produced wine of exceptional quality and character.

Brilliant bright colour. The nose develops complex aromas of pears, bush peaches and citrus fruit. Thepalate is fresh and lively, revealing notes of exotic fruit, pineapple and apricot that bring harmony andbalance. The acidity and smoothness are well balanced, giving the wine a vigorous character. Overall, the pleasant complexity and good length make this a delightful wine.
